ASSOCIATION OF SERBIAN BANKS HOST OF THE 44th EBF ASSOCIATES MEETING


On 9 May 2017 the Association of Serbian Banks had the honor to host the 44th Meeting of the Associate Members of the European Banking Federation in Belgrade. The Meeting, attended by the representatives of the banking associations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Italia, Germany, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, was chaired by Mr Giovanni Sabatini, General Manager of the Italian Banking Association, and Chair of the EBF Executive Board.

At the beginning of the Meeting, Mr Sabatini informed the participants about the conclusions from the EBF Executive Board’s Meeting, held in the past few days in Malta. In his introductory address, he underlined several times the aspect of interconnection among the banking sectors across Europe, and the implications that the global trends equally have on the EU member states and other countries. After this introduction, Mr Wim Mijs, CEO of the European Banking Federation, outlined the latest long-term strategy of this prestigious institution which represents the voice of the European banking sector. Subsequently, Dr Veroljub Dugalić, Secretary General of the Association of Serbian Banks, and Dr Goran Pitić, President of the ASB Board of Directors, delivered their respective presentations on the results of the banking sector of Serbia and the trends of macroeconomic indicators in Serbia.

The topics discussed further during the day included the future of the European Union, the perspective of Basel standards in banks, the activities of the EBF members and the quality of their cooperation with the EBF. The Association of Serbian Banks had an opportunity to present a brief review of the activities organized within the recent European Money Week, and thereby its program of financial education activities, which would in the forthcoming period be the priority of all full and associate EBF members. Following the presentation delivered by Dr Sladjana Sredojević, ASB Special Advisor, the participants representing the other banking sectors expressed their interest in a more detailed exchange of experiences with the ASB in this field.

The meeting took place in a positive working atmosphere, and the participants underlined that the discussion had been extremely useful. At the very end, Mr Sabatini, in his capacity of the Chairman, on behalf of everyone thanked the host, i.e. the Association of Serbian Banks, for the outstanding organization and hospitality, and announced the next EBF Meeting in Brussels, on 27 September 2017.
