The European Money Quiz finals was organized on 8 May 2018 by the European Banking Federation which started the initiative in order to raise awareness about the importance of financial education and financial literacy. The quiz gathered over 40,000 participants aged 13-15 from 25 European countries, while Serbia was represented by Nikola Bajat and Marko Mijailović, 8th grade students of “Duško Radović” elementary school from Belgrade. Competing against 77 classrooms from 51 schools, they won the national round of the EMQ which was organised by the Association of Serbian Banks, in coordination with the EBF.

All participants demonstrated their outstanding knowledge of financial concepts and a high level of financial literacy, and, after two final rounds, the winner of this year’s quiz was Poland, followed by Ireland in the second and Germany in the third place. Apart from being the Champions of the European Money Quiz 2018, the winners of the finals will go home with the prize of EUR 3,000 which their school will be able to spend on a financial literacy project.

Wim Mijs, Chief Executive Officer of the European Banking Federation, used this occasion to point out the logistic and technological success in organising this year’s quiz, thanking the representatives of the national banking associations, the attending teachers who accompanied their students to the event and the participants themselves. He also highlighted that the most important aim of the quiz is to promote networking and the importance of financial education, expressing his wish that the participants keep in touch amongst themselves after the competition. It is certain, however, that they will remember this event as a valuable experience.
