NEW EUROPEAN RECORD FOR THE PUPILS FROM SERBIA

A closing ceremony officially marked the end of the European Money Week 2019. On this occasion, the winners of the national European Money Quiz were announced in the presence of representatives of the ASB, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the banks and the media. This year, the Quiz attracted a record number of participants in both Serbia and Europe. In the competition of about 500 students from 150 schools across the country, the first place was won by Ognjen Pokimica from the IX Belgrade High School "Mihajlo Petrović Alas". The second place went to Bogdan Živadinović, from the Economics and Trade High School from Zaječar, and the third to Nikola Bajat, also from the IX Belgrade High School, who happened to also be the last year’s winner in this Quiz, having already represented Serbia at the European Finals in 2018.

In May, the students who won the first two places will travel to Brussels with their teachers, Milka Ivić and Jelena Milosavljević. Their travel expenses will be covered by the Association of Serbian Banks, and Vladimir Vasić, ASB Secretary General, presented them with appropriate gifts for the special occasion. Sanja Ječmenica from the Belgrade Primary School "Jovan Sterija Popović" received an award as a teacher who motivated and signed up the largest number of students. The event took place in a relaxed atmosphere where the pupils exchanged experiences and received advice from the winners whom the Association of Serbian Banks took to Brussels last year.

Slađana Sredojević PhD, Head of the ASB Bank Training Centre and Vice President of the European Banking & Financial Services Training Association (EBTN), welcomed everyone in attendance and presented the initiatives, the role and contribution of the ASB and the banks in the financial literacy of young people, highlighting why financial education is so important. At the very end, the banks that participated in the activities of the European Money Week presented their activities and financial education platforms, which will additionally, in different formats, contribute to the promotion of financial literacy.
