Vladimir Vasić, ASB Secretary General and dr Slađana Sredojević, Special Advisor for International Cooperation, Financial Markets and Education, attended the 48th regular meeting of Associated Members of the European Banking Federation (EBF), organised by the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the EBF in Baku on 20 May.

At the meeting, chaired by the EBF Executive Director, Sébastien de Brouwer, the central topic was the current situation in the financial sector of Europe and the countries in the region, as well as the possible scenarios related to the outcome of the European Parliament elections. Regarding the countries on the margins of these events, such as the Western Balkan countries and other EBF associated members, even the EBF itself has no indications as to whether or how these events might affect the governments, national regulators and their agendas.

The economic and financial situation in the EBF associated member countries has been specifically considered in detail. Under this item, presentations were held by Turkey, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Northern Macedonia.

The European Banking Federation also expressed its views on the implementation of the regulations in the domain of Basel IV. It was unanimously stated that, although the capital adequacy ratios in the region are very good, it is necessary to foster proactive cooperation and coordination between all institutions in the banking sector.

Other current issues in the banking sector were also discussed, such as digitalisation, financial education, regulation in the field of payment services and FinTech, etc.
