The first day of the Legal Operations Function in Banks 2026 was opened by a joint panel with the Compliance Function in Banks 2026 Conference on the topic "Bank Liability for Damage to Clients Due to the Use of Its Services", which brought together representatives of regulatory institutions, the academic community and the IT sector.
Mirjana Radović from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, Bojan Terzić, director of the User Protection Sector, National Bank of Serbia and Goran Marjanović, CEO of DATA CLOUD TECHNOLOGY d.o.o., spoke on the panel, while the moderator was Predrag Ćatić, Legal Opearions Specialist, ASB.
Through the discussion, numerous current issues related to the protection of users of banking services, the responsibility of banks and the challenges brought by the modern digital environment were opened.It was especially noted that the prevention of fraud starts with the users themselves - with caution, attention and the timely recognition of suspicious situations.Speaking about user protection mechanisms, representatives of the National Bank of Serbia pointed to significant results achieved in the area of refunding funds to victims of investment fraud.
The panelists agreed that technological development brings numerous advantages, while also opening up new issues of security and data protection.It was identified that security is not a one-time goal, but a continuous process that implies constant education, improvement of the system and cooperation of institutions, banks and users.Special emphasis was placed on the possibilities that modern technologies provide to banks in preventing fraud through checking and comparing data on accounts and payment recipients.
As part of the conference, the presentation "Banks and Insurance: Credit Insurance - Advantages and Challenges" was held, presented by prof.Nataša Petrović Tomić, PhD from the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade.The presentation analysed the legal and practical aspects of loan insurance on the Serbian financial market, the relationship between banks, insurance companies and loan beneficiaries, as well as current judicial practice and possible directions for improving banking practice in this area.
The first day of the Conference was marked by meaningful discussions, exchange of professional experiences and topics that have a significant impact on the further development of the banking and financial sector.The focus was on the responsibility of banks towards clients, current judicial practice, loan insurance, smart contracts and the application of artificial intelligence as a legal tool.
