According to the data of the Association of Serbian Banks’ Credit Bureau, there was a slight increase in debt of legal entities, entrepreneurs and individuals in respect of bank credits in August 2010. When it comes to retail credits, the increase in August was most prominent in the category of housing credit and other types of credit (re-finance credits). What also characterizes the past month is the fact that default in respect of bank credits for legal entities and individuals did not increase, but remained the same as in the month before. In addition, when it comes to data on leasing contracts and credit cards, it is obvious that their number has been declining month by month, along with the number of their holders. This, however, does not hold for current accounts, whose number has been slightly increasing month by month in this year, along with the number of their holders. According to the data of the Association of Serbian Banks’ Bank Clearing Institution, the number of realized cheques has recorded a moderate growth in this year: it amounted to 597,191 in January, 720,767 in July, and 756,227 in August.
Let us underline that, at the press conference held on September 15th 2010, the Credit Bureau data were commented on and explained by Mr Veroljub Dugalic, PhD, Secretary General of the Association of Serbian Banks. In addition, the journalists had an opportunity to ask questions concerning the business results of the banking sector of Serbia in the first six months, the operations of the National Bank of Serbia in respect of bank supervision, definition of margins, interests, merger of Privredna banka Pančevo with Poštanska štedionica, etc.
