Category: Activities 22 May 2026

The first day of the Compliance Function in Banks Conference 2026 was opened by a joint panel with the Legal Operations Function in Banks Conference 2026 on the topic "Bank Liability for Damage to Clients Due to the Use of Its Services", which brought together representatives of regulatory institutions, the academic community and the IT sector.

Mirjana Radović from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, Bojan Terzić, director of the User Protection Sector, National Bank of Serbia and Goran Marjanović, CEO of DATA CLOUD TECHNOLOGY d.o.o., spoke on the panel, while the moderator was Predrag Ćatić, Legal Opearions Specialist, ASB.

The panel opened up important issues of bank responsibility, customer protection and challenges that modern technologies bring to the financial sector. It was especially emphasised that the prevention of fraud starts with the users themselves, through caution, education and full attention when using financial services. The participants also emphasised the importance of cooperation between institutions, regulators and users in creating a safer financial environment.

Concrete results of user protection were also presented, including the fact that the National Bank of Serbia managed to return 33 million dinars to users who were victims of investment fraud over a period of seven months, through protection mechanisms that are still not widely used even in many European countries.

Special focus was also placed on the role of technology in fraud prevention. It was highlighted that security is not a one-time goal, but a continuous process that requires constant improvement of the system, user education and adaptation to new risks. The importance of modern technological solutions that enable the verification of data on payment recipients and account numbers was also pointed out, which significantly reduces the scope for abuse and financial fraud.

After the introductory panel, Compliance Function in Banks Conference 2026 continued with a presentation on the topic "Recommendations and Common Challenges Identified During Banks Supervision in Terms of ALM/TF - With Special Reference to Regulatory Expectations Related to Risk Analysis in Banks".

The lecture was held by Dragana Jovanović and Sandra Jovanoski from the National Bank of Serbia, who presented key recommendations and experiences from supervisory controls in the field of preventing money laundering and terrorism financing.

Special attention was paid to regulatory expectations related to risk analysis in banks, as well as the most common irregularities related to risk assessment, monitoring of client activities and compliance of internal acts with applicable regulations. It was noted that clearly defined procedures and consistent application of regulatory requirements are key to effective risk management and preserving trust in the financial system.

During the first day of the conference, a number of burning topics in the field of compliance and banking were discussed, including:

  • the results of the Manival evaluation,
  • new regulatory framework for banks,
  • application of artificial intelligence in the CDD process,
